New GenSearch facility
Jun 22nd, 2005, 4:50am

A new facility called GenSearch has been added to the website.

The GenSearch database is intended to contain a list of the key Sheffield ancestors that you are researching with the purpose of allowing you to discover others with similar research interests.

Unlike the many Surname Interest Lists which can be found on the internet the GenSearch database does not reveal your email address so there is no possibility of receiving spam email.  The database allows you to enter surname, forename, place and date of birth as well as up to 80 characters of free text notes on your ancestors.

You will also be able to query the existing GenSearch database and where an interesting match is found, using the facilities of the Sheffield Indexers message forum, will be able to send a private message to whoever had submitted the record .

If you're not currently registered on the Sheffield Indexers message forum then feel free to sign up.  All facilities on the site are provided free of charge.

Access to the GenSearch database is via the Features item in the website menu on the left of the site.  As the database has only just been released there will only be a few entries in it to start with but over time we are hoping it will grow and become a very useful resource for those seeking others researching similar lines.
