I'm researching the Listers. My branch of the family came from Maltby originally where they were shoemakers. John Lister (1821-1891)moved to Sheffield where he became a joiner and married his partner's daughter, Elizabeth Armitage. John's grandson Edward Lister (1875-1955), my great grandfather, moved to York after a spell in the York and Lancashire regiment and service in the Boer War.

I am researching NEWSAM-John b circa 1809 Sheffield, an Iron Moulder married to Ann.
When his son George Frederic was born in 1847 the family lived at Radley's Yard Allen Street Sheffield.
I cannot locate this family on the census. smile

Would like to make contact with anyone researching Newsam.

My great-grandparents, Robert Bertram and Mary Ann Green Bertram, came to the U.S. in the mid-19th century from Sheffield. She was just 12 at the time, and her family emigrated in 1854. Robert's brother (I have no name) also came to the U.S. but returned to England. I am hoping to find information about their parents and siblings and would love to contact any descendants.

Hi,
I can't find any records for a Robert Bertram which match with the information you have given.
As you give the two names as your grt. grandparents, did Robert Bertram marry Mary Ann Green? If so, does their marriage certificate give some information as to their fathers?
Regards,
Doreen

Thank you to all who administer and run this great site.

I'm looking for information on when James & Harry Wales born in Hepworth Suffolk, arrived in Sheffield. Their brother John Frost Wales is on the 1871 Census living with his Uncle John Wales (a Game Dealer) and Aunt Mary, his brother George is in the 1881 Census living with them also.

Thank you smile

I am looking for John Wallace and his wife Amelia. He was a stone mason, and had three daughters. They later adopted a baby.

bluebell Sunday, 23 May 2010 17:23
Hi Donald,
There is a member just asking about the very same family. I think he married Amelia Lee in 1837.
If you've registered as a member you will be able to make contact with Jane. Looks like you have a family connection already!

Doreen

Nice to find such an informative site. I'm looking for part of my husband's family - SMALLEY - in particular Joseph Smalley who came to Sheffield from Lincolnshire around 1840. He was a shoemaker married to Charlotte

bluebell Friday, 23 April 2010 13:48
Hi Margaret,
Joseph & Charlotte are buried in the same grave at the General Cemetery. Also in the grave is daughter Harriet Roddis and 2 sons. Once you register and log in, you will be able to find this information from the 'Data Menu'.

Doreen
