In 1873 a national survey was undertaken of all land owners and all those who owned 1 acre or more were subsequently listed in a government publication. The information published included the owner's name, the address or location of the land, the extent of the land and its value. This index contains all those records for land owners in Sheffield, Rotherham, Ecclesfield and surrounding areas.

The information contained in the index is currently as follows:

forename, surname, extent of the land in acres, roods and poles, and the value of the land in pounds and shillings.
