The online database contains transcriptions of the Sheffield 1861 census which was originally taken on the night of April 7th, 1861. To access the 1861 census data please first login via the Message Forum and then select the Data Menu from the left hand side of the screen. You can then search the online database via the Census option within the menu.

A complete list of the piece numbers currently available online and the areas they cover can be seen by selecting "What's Online". The index can be searched by a combination of piece number, folio, birthplace, forename and surname and both wildcard and metaphone (sound-alike) searches can be performed on the surname.

The information contained in the index is as follows:

piece number, folio, parish, forename, surname, age, relationship, county & place of birth.
