Using the Chat Room
Jul 5th, 2005, 11:56pm

We have now added a chat room facility where you can chat interactively with other users of the web site.  You will need to registered on the message forum in order to use it and your web browser will need to support Macromedia Flash.

In order to join the website Chat Room you can either select it from the left hand menu (under the main heading of 'Features' or by selecting the Chat option from the forum's main menu.

The panel on the left of the web site shows who, if anyone, is currently in that chat rooms.

Chat room facilities

You can change your chat avatar that appears in the room list or when you say something by clicking on the panel marked Options and then selecring the Tab called Effects.

You can create a temporary new private or public chat room by clicking the 'Add' button at the top of the chat screen where it displays the name of the Room.

You can send a private message or a file to a user or invite them to the room you are in by clicking on their name within the room list with the left mouse button.

The room list can be "detached" from the right side of the screen by clicking below it (cursor will appear as a hand shape) and then dragging it into the middle of the screen.  The list can similarly be returned to its docked position by dragging it back to the right hand side of the screen.

Known Problems
Some users have found that occasionally their chat screen has become black .. this appears to be due to a bug in some versions of Macromedia Flash which we hope will be resolved soon.  This problem can be easily cleared by surfing to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_man ager07.html#117717 and deleting the sheffield indexers site from the list that appears.
