2  Sheffield Records Online / News / Burngreave Cemetery Grave Purchases
 on: Apr 26th, 2008, 8:04pm

Great News !
In conjunction with the "Friends of Burngreave Cemetery", we are adding another searchable database in the Data Menu under the burials section. The database contains the names and addresses of the actual Grave Owners and the people who were interred in the plot.

It can be accessed by selecting "Data Menu" from the left hand menu and then further selecting "Burials". You will need to be logged in, in order to search the database. The Burngreave Cemetery records are also included in the site's Global Search facility.

We would like to extend our thanks to "Friends of Burngreave Cemetery" who are transcribing the Grave Purchase Books and will be adding other burials from time to time so that the database will contain burials with the name and address of the purchaser or some with the name and address of the deceased.

A brief introduction from "The Friends of Burngreave Cemetery"
The Cemetery opened in 1861 and the first burial was for five year old Oscar Brooks. The cemetery covers over 37 acres of land and up to date, there's over 150,000 burials that have taken place. Friends of Burngreave Cemetery are a voluntary group whose objectives are to help with the care of the chapels, its lands and also to further the historic and environmental benefits of this cemetery within the community.

9  Sheffield Records Online / News / Site menu restructured
 on: Mar 31st, 2006, 12:15am
Started by Admin | Post by Admin
We decided there was a little too much crammed into the main site menu so we have restructured it and effectively split it into two: than main site menu and a data menu.   The latter provides access to all the site databases assuming you have logged in.  You can move between the two different menus at the click of a button.  If anyone has any queries or problems following this change then please drop us a line via the Contacts Page.

White's Directory of Sheffield & Rotherham for 1911 has now been completed and contains 38,749 entries.  Although typically only trades people are listed it is nevertheless a very valuable source of information as the availability of the 1911 census is still some years away.  Thanks to all the transcribers that were involved and a special thank-you to Mich for a Herculean effort in helping to bring it to a conclusion.
