.:: Welcome ::.
Welcome to the web site of Sheffield Records Online.

Our aim is to provide online material free of charge to help those researching their Sheffield ancestry. To that effect we have now completed and put online the full 1841 census index for Sheffield, Bradfield and Ecclesfield and a large part of Rotherham. The full 1851 census index for Sheffield is also available and work is in progress on the index to the 1861 census.

Transcription of a number of Sheffield Trade Directories ranging from 1787 to 1925 is well advanced and we have made available a database where users can enter basic details of their Sheffield ancestry with a view to discovering others researching the same lines. Taking advantage of the Yorks Probate index project we also have a growing number of probate indexes for people from Sheffield and the surrounding area.

Burial records for City Road Cemetery, General Cemetery and St Michael's RC Cemetery are available as are records for the Poll Books of 1835 and 1848. A list of Master Cutlers and an index to the list of apprentice cutlers is also provided.

We hope to be providing a number of other transcriptions online in the future.

In addition, there is a message forum where you can request full details of entries in the 1841 census (and other censuses) or ask for help in general with researching your Sheffield ancestors. A number of the message forum members have a wealth of material relating to Sheffield and will be happy to try and assist where they can.

Burngreave Cemetery Grave Purchases by Admin :: Apr 26th, 2008, 7:04pm ::
Great News !
In conjunction with the "Friends of Burngreave Cemetery", we are adding another searchable database in the Data Menu under the burials section. The database contains the names and addresses of the actual Grave Owners and the people who were interred in the plot.

It can be accessed by selecting "Data Menu" from the left hand menu and then further selecting "Burials". You will need to be logged in, in order to search the database. The Burngreave Cemetery records are also included in the site's Global Search facility.

We would like to extend our thanks to "Friends of Burngreave Cemetery" who are transcribing the Grave Purchase Books and will be adding other burials from time to time so that the database will contain burials with the name and address of the purchaser or some with the name and address of the deceased.

A brief introduction from "The Friends of Burngreave Cemetery"
The Cemetery opened in 1861 and the first burial was for five year old Oscar Brooks. The cemetery covers over 37 acres of land and up to date, there's over 150,000 burials that have taken place. Friends of Burngreave Cemetery are a voluntary group whose objectives are to help with the care of the chapels, its lands and also to further the historic and environmental benefits of this cemetery within the community.
